Thank you for your interest in working with Lupus LA.  We currently have TWO open positions:

Special Events Manager

The Special Events Manager will manage and implement the daily activities associated with the fundraising, planning and coordinating of our events program designed to raise funds, awareness and support for Lupus LA, and significantly contribute to the sustainability of the Lupus LA mission and programs. In addition, this person will supervise the Special Events Associate and oversee our event volunteer base.  The position will report to the Executive Director. This is a full-time, exempt position.

QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:  The Special Events Manager (SEM) needs to be a self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit, team-oriented, fast-paced work environment, and have a cooperative, can-do approach. This person must possess flexibility and an eagerness to learn and work on different tasks as needed. They must have superior organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure, remain calm and effective under a heavy work load, juggle multiple priorities, and anticipate and meet deadlines.

The SEM needs to be detail-oriented, quick thinking, and maintain professional standards of performance and demeanor, including punctuality, professional behavior and phone manner. They must have initiative and self-motivation, and exercise discretion and confidentiality.

The SEM oversees the Special Events Associate and must have prior managerial experience.

The SEM must demonstrate a strong command of all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Intermediate Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and experience with database operations and mail merges. Previous experience working with database software is a must, such as GiftWorks or Raiser’s Edge.

This position also requires strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, good writing, proofreading, and grammatical skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain an understanding of the organization’s mission, activities and events and comply with organizational policies and standards.
  • Help to support all programs and fundraising efforts of Lupus LA.

Event Management

  • Prospect, cultivate, solicit and recognize corporate sponsorships and major donors for events.
  • Develop and manage all communication collateral in relationship to our Events Program, such as solicitation materials, invitations, letters, packets, journals, and presentations.
  • Work in close collaboration with board members, other staff, and volunteers on event planning.
  • Oversee and maintain relationships with event-related outside consultants and vendors to achieve successful fundraising events.
  • Coordinates all event honorees and VIP’s.
  • Orchestrates and collaborates on celebrity invites, red carpet, press, etc. with our PR team.
  • Event budget preparation, management and oversight.
  • Oversee and manage Special Events Associate and Administrative Coordinator to ensure proper monitoring and processing of all incoming donations.
  • Schedule and attend committee meetings.
  • Prepare event status reports for Executive Director and committees.
  • Facilitate our live and silent auctions. Supervise the solicitation of items, coordinate receipts of items, auction set-up/check-out, bidding procedures, and thank you letters.
  • Coordination and approval of all meeting minutes and committee communications.
  • Responsible for filing city permits, acquiring insurance certificates and other official documents in relationship to event production.
  • Works with Executive Director and key stakeholders in the production of smaller events as they arise.

Volunteer and Ambassador Programs

  • Recruit and train event volunteers.
  • Act as the primary liaison for our Lupus LA Ambassador Program.

Social Media

  • Oversee our social media program and coordinate e-blasts and other messaging with Executive Director.
  • Manage and facilitate the SAVI program for our social media outreach.
  • Oversee website content and messaging in relation to events program.

EDUCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of non-profit experience with a minimum of two+ years’ experience managing event logistics, including day-of event activities for large fundraising events, securing sponsorships, and participant cultivation.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
  • Local travel is required. Must have a valid California drivers’ license and dependable transportation. Must also provide proof of auto insurance.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and database programs, such as GiftWorks or Raiser’s Edge.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:  Range of compensation is $68,000 – $75,000 annually plus benefits, depending on qualifications and experience.

Sherman Oaks Adult Support Group Facilitator

Lupus LA is looking for an experienced support group facilitator. This person will report to the Program Manager. The Sherman Oaks Adult Support Group Facilitator will present educational material and facilitate group discussions relating to lupus. During these groups, the facilitator will provide knowledge, skills and tools for participants to use in order to help them to feel supported. Oral and written fluency in English is a requirement for this position. Lupus LA is an equal opportunity employer.

HOURS: Second Tuesday of each month 6:00pm-8:30pm (Group meets from 6:30pm-8:00pm) Please note that this position is for a total of two and a half hours per month total.

LOCATION: Sherman Oaks Hospital, 4929 Van Nuys Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

COMPENSATION: $35.00/hour to $40.00/hour depending on education & experience

The Support Group Facilitator will:

  • Create a safe haven for sharing feelings, concerns, and thoughts about lupus and lupus related problems, and provide coping mechanisms.
  • Act in accordance of the Lupus LA guidelines.
  • Model appropriate communication and leadership skills.
  • Provide reliable and factual information about lupus.
  • Build network of medical professionals, hospitals, rheumatologists, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the individual needs of group members.
  • Limit self-disclosure to information that is of clear benefit to group members.
  • Address crises both within the group and individually while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Coordinate the group, time, location, and size of each group.
  • Update the status of the group, including changes in meeting dates or times, cancelled meetings, and group size.
  • Notify all group members and Lupus LA no less than 24 hours in advance if group is cancelled.
  • Provide back-up coverage for other support groups as needed.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (group reports, sign in sheets, confidentially agreement).

QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge and understanding of lupus.
  • Thorough understanding of group dynamics and group process.
  • Excellent therapeutic and personal boundaries and ethics.
  • Ability to perform crisis intervention.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
