Lupus LA hosts the annual “Evening of Love, Light and Laughter” at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Michael Chiklis will present the Loop Award to Shawn Ryan, Executive Producer of The Shield on FX for creating an ongoing storyline of a character living with lupus and to CCH Pounder for her beautiful portrayal. Jay Mohr serves as the MC and John Salley joins as the guest auctioneer. Comedian Bobby Slayton brings his Vegas style entertainment. The evening is under the gracious leadership of dinner chairs Michelle and Alan Kaye.
Kelly Stone who, along with her sister Sharon Stone, is one of Lupus LA’s major supporters and source of inspiration will receive the Michael Wayne Public Service Award. Other honorees include Gloriana DiCandia, age 15, who has lupus will receive the Spirit of Hope Award; Brian Kotzin M.D., James Louie M.D., Judy Maddox M.D., Debra Zack M.D. of The Amgen Family of Lupus Rheumatologists accept the Medical Visionary Award.
Lupus LA was formed seven years ago by Daniel Wallace MD, one of the country’s prominent Lupus specialists, to raise funds for Lupus research through the Lupus Research Institute. Lupus is one of the country’s most prevalent, unpredictable and potentially fatal diseases. The autoimmune disease that affects over two million Americans, 90% of whom are women, is very difficult to diagnose and there is no cure. Lupus is a leading cause of stroke, kidney and premature cardiovascular disease in young women.
